Description:
The African Union (AU) is the main regional body in Africa; composed of nearly every African nation, it is a provides a forum for regional communication, presents a united front to the rest of the world on African issues, and is increasingly involved in ensuring stability, protecting human rights and assisting development in its member states. The African Union is a fairly modern creation, formed in 2001. Since its foundation the African Union has been an active participant in African politics and an increasingly important force for regional security.
