European Council (EC)

Contact: ec@munuc.org
Committee Group: Regional Committees

President: Mr. Mark Mahvi

Description:
The European Union is a prominent political and economic organization that combines the interest of twenty-seven sovereign states located primarily in Europe. Though an extensive history surrounds the idea of a conjoined Europe, the present incarnation of such a union emerged from the ashes of the Second World War. However, the European Union as it exists today was not formed until 1992 by the Treaty of Maastricht. Since its inception, the European Union has created a much more unified Europe. The European Council is the meeting of the heads of government of the states of the European Union, which addresses the many issues that Europe faces today.
