Description:
The Security Council in 1950 represents the first convocation of Cold War powers in crisis. The world polarized after the Second World War and after the formation of the United Nations, and created a web of shifting alliances. These alliances created an electric atmosphere in the concentrated atmosphere of the Security Council. Delegates in the committee will consider two geopolitical arenas brimming with the potential to begin a nuclear war. The situation in the Korean Peninsula melds competition between American and Soviet forces and between North and South Korean forces. Meanwhile, Palestinian refugees and the Israeli government appear headed for a major collision in the Middle East. Both of these situations will test the diplomatic and strategic acumen of delegates and will require a delicate balance of skills to excel throughout the weekend. The first true crisis of the UN Security Council promises a fast-paced, challenging conference atmosphere.
