United Nations Industrial Development Organization Board (IDB)

Contact: idb@munuc.org
Committee Group: Specialized Agencies

President: Mr. Ryan O'Malley

Description:
The 53 member states of the UNIDO Industrial Development Board (IDB) will assemble in Vienna to address the problematic paradox between the economic necessity of industrialization in developing countries and the high price of environmental externalities. Members will have to weigh the potential economic growth benefits of implementing capital against the implicit costs of global warming, loss of biodiversity, pollution, release of toxic substances, and land degradation. In addition to infrastructure issues, the Board will seek to resolve the challenge of building human capital in developing nations. The long run plans delegates will be responsible for designing will have to balance the sensitive political nature of regulation in developing economies with IDB’s long term objectives of cleaner and sustainable production and economic growth.

Topic A: The Trade-Offs and Challenges of Environmental Management
