Description:
The Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC) is an international organization comprised of 57 nations. Established in 1969, its purpose was to provide a multilateral forum for discussion of issues affecting nations with a significant Islamic population. While the OIC has always strived for increased cooperation both among its Islamic members and on an international scale, it has not always achieved that sense of solidarity, as states have taken disparate positions on certain political issues. Even so, the OIC has the power to work effectively in regional and larger settings and the importance of the OIC in resolving issues in its member states is greater than ever, and it must step forward to accept this role.
