Description:
The Fourth Committee of the General Assembly, SPECPOL, was created in 1993 as a combination of the Special Political Committee and the Decolonization Committee. This committee, whose members include all countries in the UN, deals with issues of political stability, self-determination, and decolonization. Unlike the UN Security Council, SPECPOL has no authority to enforce decisions through military action or economic sanctions, but rather serves as a forum in which to address these international issues in a cooperative manner among all member states.
