United Nations Commission on Narcotic Drugs (UNCND)

Contact: uncnd@munuc.org
Committee Group: Specialized Agencies

Chair: Ms. Jennie Huang

Description:
At the 53rd annual meeting in Vienna, the 53 member states of the United Nations Commission on Narcotic Drugs (UNCND) will focus on the social and cultural effects of international drug trafficking and the prominent regional issue of the Golden Triangle. While the Commission has been actively determining international policies on all drug-related matters since its establishment in 1946, concrete policies on combating the modern repercussions of narcotic drugs such as increased HIV, sexual abuse and drug tourism have not been sufficiently addressed. At this year’s annual meeting, delegates will have to look beyond the traditional issues of production, distribution and usage, and closely examine the social and cultural causes and consequences of the demand for narcotics.

Topic A: International Drug Trade and its Social and Cultural Effects

Topic B: Golden Triangle
