A medium-sized, double-delegation committee, the UNEP was established in 1972 at the United Nations Conference on the Human Environment. Its mission is to increase awareness about the environmental consequences of development and to recommend environmentally-friendly alternatives. Past topics have included climate change, resource protection, and ground water preservation.
