United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization Executive Board (UNESCO)

Contact: unesco@munuc.org
Committee Group: Specialized Agencies

Chair: Mr. Marco Jaimes

Description:
The Executive Board of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) will assemble at the Paris headquarters to debate the rightful ownership of cultural objects and the rights of the press. In preparing the Board’s recommendations for the General Conference of UNESCO, delegates will have to consider the legal literature that is currently in place on cultural objects and whether these documents sufficiently address illicit trade and acquisition during war. Members of the Board will also be challenged on the issue of the freedom of the press and how this is particularly handled in conflict regions, where issues of personal safety, national sovereignty and the necessity of press coverage collide.

Topic A: Ownership of Cultural Objects

Topic B: Promoting the Freedom of Press in the Modern World
