Committee Group: Specialized Agencies
Chair: Mr. Apratim Gautam
Description:
Topic A: The Situation in the South China Sea
Topic B: The Situation in Yemen
The United Nations Security Council is tasked with ensuring international peace and security. As the only body in the United Nations capable of organising and executing military action, the Security Council finds itself in the unique position of being the first and most powerful guardian of peace and stability throughout the world. As such, the committee will grapple with pressing issues such as the South China Sea and growing concerns over Yemen – disparate problems linked by the common thread of the serious ramifications of inaction. Through debating these issues, delegates will learn about the premier organ of the United Nations, and the inherent tensions present within the body itself, whilst doing their utmost to fulfil its challenging mandate.
