Description:
A medium-sized, double-delegation committee, the World Bank was established in 1944 at the United Nations Monetary and Financial Conference, in Bretton Woods, New Hampshire. Originally set up to finance the reconstruction of Europe after World War II, the World Bank now focuses on financing capital-intensive projects in developing countries. Past topics have included banking crises in developing countries, military expenditures and loan conditionality, and oil exploration in Southeast Asia.
