As the upper chamber of the Congress of the United States, the US Senate is the most powerful legislative organization in the US. Comprised of 100 Senators, two from each of the 50 United States, the body is representative of the entire country. While the Senate passes legislation on multiple topics, both domestic and foreign, for the purpose of this simulation, we will be debating issues relating to criminal justice reform. In an era of seemingly ever increasing political party polarization, criminal justice is unique in its standing as an issue recognized by both parties as needing addressing. Specifically, this body will be debating the issues of the war on drugs and sentencing, reentry and rehabilitation, and policing.
